There is more to life than lacrosse, but there are also a lot of people I have met through lacrosse that can teach us a lot about life. Our Jam Sessions are an effort to put some different people in front of the kids for them to learn something new. An important part of coaching is to help build a child’s character. At TRW, we want to leverage our friends and family to take it a step further. It could be a player on the field teaching them a new skill, or someone that has never played lacrosse, answering some questions and talking about their life experiences.
Have a look at some of the amazing guests we have had so far.
Session #8
Our eighth Jam Session was in person after a number of our players just wrapped up a solid tournament victory. We were joined by one of the best to ever play the game, John Grant Jr. John and I played lacrosse together on a few different teams and there probably isn’t another player in the world that has more fun suiting up each game. His accomplishments on the field are basically a complete list of all available awards.
Thank you John for taking your time to talk to the players!
Session #7
Our seventh Jam Session was yet another amazing experience for the Wolfpack. We were joined by Hall of Fame player and TV sensation Ryan Boyle. Ryan started playing lacrosse right where I did, Cockeysville Rec. Ryan went on to be a 3X All-American at Princeton, 5X MLL All-Star, NCAA National Champion, 3X MLL Champion, 2X NLL All-Star, Rookie of the Year in the MLL nad NLL and 3X member of Team USA to name a few accomplishments.
Ryan was always known for being one of the smartest players on the field with a great understanding of the game and field vision.
Thank you Ryan for taking your time with The Wolfpack!
Session #6
Our sixth Jam Session was one of the best to date. We were joined by High Point Head Coach Jon Torpey. Jon is an old friend from Baltimore who has had an amazing lacrosse career as a player at Ohio State and in the MLL as well as exceeding everyone’s expectations of a coach starting a new program at High Point and building them into one of the top Division 1 programs in the country. My favorite quote from our time with Jon really hit home with the boys. Jon expressed “To play here, you have to find the hardest working kid in your town, and make them look lazy.”
Thank you Jon for taking your time with The Wolfpack!
Session #5
In our fifth Jam Session we were joined by another one of the all-time greats of the game. His accolades in lacrosse are too long to list and his name tells you all you really need to know. Ryan (Rhino) Powell was an amazing guest. He told stories about growing up with his brothers and playing in the neighborhood with some of the best to play the game. Like all of the Jam Sessions before him, Ryan stressed the importance of differentiating yourself as a player outside of practice to push your game to the next level.
Thank you Rhino for taking your time with The Wolfpack!
Session #4
Just 5 days off of back-to-back PLL championships, we were joined by the Whipsnakes Mike Chanenchuk, midfielder extraordinaire.
Mike is a three time NCAA All-American, member of the US National Team, PLL All-Star and all around goal scoring machine. Mike shared a very similar message with the team as our previous guests. If you want to go to the next level, you have to put in the work, especially the bounce back.
Thank you Mike for taking your time with The Wolfpack!
Session #3
Our third Jam Session delivered yet again.
We were joined by the one and only Gary Gait. He and his twin brother Paul put the sport of lacrosse on the map and were the inspiration to so many more players that came behind them. The boys got in all kinds of questions and Gary answered one after the other, including the ever elusive question “Where is the trophy?” We realized on the call that in our 3rd Jam Session we have now had 6 different players from 4 different National Teams join us and share their stories with the Wolfpack.
Session #2
Our second Jam Session was another great experience for the boys.
Our special guests were Tewaaraton candidate and Iroquois National Team member Tehoka Nanticoke along with fellow Iroqouis National Team players and coaches Jim Barnes and Scott Burnam. The boys got to ask a lot of questions and learn about the history of the game from those that still honor its past with ceremonies today.
Session #1
Our first Jam Session was a huge success.
Our special guests were my college head coach and the all-time winningest coach in NCAA lacrosse history Jim Berkman, US National Team and PLL Atlas LSM Kyle Hartzell, and a bonus guest Australian National Team and PLL Atlas Defenseman Callum Robinson.
The boys had a great learning experience hearing what it takes to be the best from the best.
